The wastewater treatment plant in Altena will be completely renewed and upgraded using ‘state of the art’ NEREDA® technology. This innovative process is based on aerobic granular biomass and is extremely compact (-40% less space required). Further advantages compared to classical activated sludge processes are 30% less energy consumption, 75% reduction in chemicals and improved effluent quality.
The Ruhrverband is the first plant operator in Germany to opt for this innovative process which will set new standards in wastewater treatment.
